The Belize Bank Limited proudly coordinated, in partnership with Mastercard, Belize’s first ever Girls4Tech program. The groundbreaking event was held on March 4th-8th, 2024 and welcomed over 300 primary school girls between Std 1-6 who attend Belize Elementary School and St. Joseph Primary School. The Girls4Tech workshops serve as a platform to inspire and empower young girls to pursue careers in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM). The Girls4Tech workshops lasted 2-3 hours per group and featured specially tailored sessions designed to engage the girls in a fun and educational manner. The girls delved into various topics including algorithm, fraud detection, cryptology, binary codes, and all things digital. These sessions were developed by esteemed Mastercard technologists who adhered to global science and math standards.

On Wednesday, March 6, 2024, an official ceremony was held where the Minister of Education, Hon. Francis Fonseca, expressed his enthusiasm for Belize's participation in the global effort to integrate girls and women into the fields of STEM, stressing the importance of inclusivity and providing opportunities for girls to develop crucial STEM skills. Our CEO, Mr. Filippo Alario, also emphasized the importance of empowering these young girls’ dreams so that they can become future young women with visions. Our COO, Mrs. Agata Ruta, also highlighted that the purpose of the program is to change the way girls think with the hopes of planting the seed in their minds so that they know that they can truly become anyone they want to be in the future.
This initiative marks a significant step forward in fostering an environment where young girls in Belize can explore and excel in STEM which can contribute to their personal growth and the nation's technological advancement. We hope to continue inspiring and empowering young girls, our future leaders, to bridge the gender gap and we look forward to continuing this wonderful program in the following years to come.
